Pattern
A few years ago I saw the film Standard written and directed by Fernando González Gómez. Spanish independent cinema.
What is the film about
Standard is a comedy that follows the story of Thomas (Nico Verona) a young man who leads a monotonous and very quiet life, working as a stock clerk and in charge of shopping in a supermarket in his city. His passions are order and classical music, but these hobbies are so extreme that they make him a very peculiar guy.
Her days go by very normally until Laura disappears (Susana Abaitua), the supermarket owner’s daughter and her crush. The young girl is a modern and outgoing girl, everyone thinks that her disappearance is due to her desire to leave the city and get away from the toxic relationship she has with her father.
Tomás does not believe in this theory and thanks to his extravagant taste for order and having everything written down, he will begin to analyze the habits and hobbies of the shop’s colorful customers to try to find out who is behind the young woman’s disappearance. , because in this city nothing is as normal as Thomas would like.
In this film, a series of intrigues, lies and betrayals will unfold that revolve around a universe of very peculiar characters that will unite Tomás and Laura forever… or not.
In Standard, in addition to the two protagonists, we find Manuel de Blas, Ramiro Blas, Maria Gregorio, Alexandre Tous, Jesus Vidal, between others.
standard criticism
The best thing about Standard is that it is sometimes very funny, it is also true that the humor is very concrete. The two protagonists have good performances, it is also true that their characters are the most interesting. The rest of the characters neither fu nor fa.
I think the weakest part is the finish. The default resolution is a little reu, especially compared to everything that was unfolding during filming. That, along with the fact that most of the characters don’t contribute, I think makes the movie not work.
