Some time ago I talked about the new animated adaptation of The Addams Family (2019), which I applauded at the time and, by the way, was waiting for the second part. Even though it took a while, I knew I had a pending date with the cinema and today I’m just here to talk to you about what I found The Addams Family 2: The Great Escape (2020) by Conrad Vernon s Greg Tiernan.
In the midst of a family crisis, a product of distancing Wednesday (Chloe Grace Moretz) S pugsley (Javon Walton), who are growing up and starting to seek their independence; death (Charlize Theron) S Gomez (oscar isaac) decide to take all their eccentricities on vacation.
I had previously commented that I liked the animation, but maybe it was because of the atmosphere that was created for the first film. In this case, it decays, losing all the charm it seemed to have.
Aside from the animation, the truth is that this movie is not good at all. Any. There’s no dark Addams humor, no good story to tell. Instead, they look like clippings from other productions, such as meatball rain or fringe, without becoming homages or anything, just poorly adapted copies.
The successes they had in the first film have completely disappeared, that is, there is no continuity, no connection. Nothing is returned. They decided to start almost from scratch and exaggerate everything, trying to adapt The Addams Family for new generations and current issues, but they don’t do it well, it’s forced and humorless.
The worst, the music. If in the previous one they were able to honor the main theme that for years characterized The Addams Family, in this it seems that whoever chose the soundtrack has no idea who these characters are. I’m not saying the music is bad (that it’s not my taste is a separate thing), but it’s easier to mix oil and water than this dark family with this soundtrack.
I really think the first installment had its successes and I even liked it, but in The Addams Family 2: The Great Escape sought to continue a small success wanting to exploit a bad franchise attempt just to make money and things don’t always work out that way.
